Mural dedication set for Aug. 16

Posted: Aug 9th, 2025

Sister Cities of Greenfield cordially invites the community to celebrate the completion of the newest mural in downtown Greenfield, Bridging Communities. This mural is the latest creation of Greenfield’s own Carl Leck. This mural was commissioned by Sister Cities of Greenfield to celebrate the organizations 35th anniversary of sisterhood with Kakuda, Japan.

The mural is painted on the west side of the building that houses the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen at 202 E. Main Street in Greenfield. Sister Cities of Greenfield is grateful for their support of this project.

Greenfield became a Sister City with Kakuda, Japan, in 1990. Since then, hundreds of students, chaperones and city employees have traveled back and forth in this cultural exchange program. This mural features landscapes of both Greenfield and Kakuda with a stream dividing them. A bridge over the stream features two children meeting in the middle, connecting our communities.

We invite the public to join us at the mural (202 E. Main Street) at 5 p.m. and then the artist reception will be held on Saturday, August 16th from 5:30 pm until 8 pm at TwentyNorth Gallery, 20 N. State Street, in Greenfield. We invite the community to come and meet the artist, Carl Leck, enjoy some light refreshments, and learn about the mural and Sister Cities of Greenfield.

If you would like to purchase your very own print of this mural, please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/SisterCitiesOfGreenfield or by emailing us at scofgreenfield@gmail.com.

We hope you will join us on August 16th!
